I worked at Joseph Lucas (Export) Limited for 8 years, from 1959-1967. I am now in contact with an old friend from those days who has asked about Ivan Brown, who was Works Manager (and for whom I worked).  I have been unable to contact him by phone and wonder if anyone would be able to assist me?

After their holiday in Haddenham from Debby & Ian Was "Hello! Haddenham was recently a highlight of our trip to England. We are from Edmonton, Alberta, Canada and were in Haddenham to visit the PLATER display at the museum. I am researching the Plater family history and wanted to see the village my PLATER ancestors came from. What a delightful village! It is so beautiful - we took dozens of photos and walked through your picturesque streets. We stayed at the Cover Point B&B and would like to thank Pam & Nigel for their hospitality. The "Rose and Thistle" was definitely my favourite place to eat! We would also like to thank Michael Whitney for the visit to the museum and the copy of his book. I think the people of Haddenham should be proud of the wonderful job they have done in preserving the history and beauty of their homes and village. Hopefully, I will be back! If anyone is interested in the PLATER family history, please contact me.

The Turner Family. Does anyone have any information about the following? Great Grandparents George & Sarah Turner lived at Fort End Square, Haddenham in the early 1900's with children Daisy & Herbert Clarke, & Minnie & Elsie Turner. Daisy (my Grandmother) married Harry Page in 1917 & was living in Rosemary Lane, Haddenham in the early 1920's. Am trying to find the source of the original surname of Clarke. Would be grateful if anyone could help with this, or provide any further details which would help.

22.03.06 from Wendy Sargeant (Mrs) Hello, Is there any chance of someone looking in the church records to see if there is mention of George Higgins ,my great great great grandad, born 1808 in Aston Stanford. He may have been the son of Thomas and Elisabeth and brother to John, (twins) Ann & Ruth, Kezia and Rachel but there seems to be a gap of 7 years in which he and others might have been born. I would be very grateful for any assistance. I hope to visit the area later this year and wondered if it is possible to visit the local churches and browse any records. Maybe you would be kind enough to give me some contacts. Yours sincerely Wendy

30.06.05 from Richard Clay My name is Richard and my great grandmother Mary Earl Clay was born in Haddenham in 1860. She married a 'Wallace' and moved to Australia where she remained for the rest of her life. I have inherited 2 beautiful pencil sketches of hers done when she was 17 years old in 1878. One is of a castle which we cannot recognise where it is and the other is a beautiful portrait of Princes Charlotte of Wales. Does anyone know whether Mary Earl Clay was a prominent artist or any other information that would help me with my search? Thank you. Richard Clay

23.06.05 from Julie Carey (nee Loughram) I was born in Haddenham in Moorcraft House, Church End, and was christened and married in St Mary's. I spent most of my childhood in the village and have many fond memories of my time spent here and was keen to return to see how much it had changed. Much to my delight not much of the old village has changed, admitted there is urban sprawl on the outskirts, but the heart of the village is still the same.
I now live and work in Australia and have done for 23 years. As it is our 25th wedding anniversary this year my husband and I decided a European tour would be our gift to each other. As the Australian dollar is not very strong at the moment we needed to work in order to achieve this and thanks to the girls at Box-Com who found Steve & I temporary jobs very quickly we have been able to earn a bit of money and still fit in some travel as well.

11.03.05 from Anna Malinovska Between 1977 and 1980, I interviewed a number of ex-RFC/RAF personnel who had served in the First World War, to create a video archive of their reminiscences, which was commissioned by The Royal Air Force Museum in Hendon. One of my interviewees was Sir Herbert Thompson RNAS/RAF, whom I interviewed at Fair Acre, Church Way, Haddenham, on 19 May 1977. This material is now being incorporated in a book which is to be published later this year, and I am researching into the biographical details of the men I interviewed as part of this project. This is proving difficult, as these men are all long dead. I would be most obliged if you could contact me with any information you might have about Sir Herbert Thompson. 17.12.04 from Malcolm Powell Hello, Firstly, I would like to say how wonderful it was to find Haddenham on the internet. Having been brought up in the village, it will always have a place in my heart.
A Brief History: My name is Malcolm Powell and moved to Quakers Mede with my Mother and Father in 1971 at just 18 months old. Eventually we moved to Brighton in 1982 and have remained here since. Haddenham provided all of us with fond memories and have spent many a time talking about them. My father John and mother Celia new many people in the village and from the stories, I gather they enjoyed many a party or two! My father was also involved with the fine ale houses and in particular enjoyed wondering from pub to pub and chanting "aroom aroom, brave gallants aroom" in the local Mumas play (oh the stories I've heard about that). He even managed to save the village hall from complete destruction whilst staggering home from the pub one night he  noticed the hall on fire and reported it to the Police?! the puzzled police put him on to the Fire Brigade and the hall was rescued. I myself, enjoyed the village having made many friends and joining in with the Roller Skate activities at the old village hall. I also played my part in local activities such as the Cubs and then the Scouts, even helping at an archaeological dig at the church. I went to school at both the Church School and the Middle School and have many memories of walking from the Church School to the Dinner Hall (Is it still there and being used ?). The most memorable thing that happened to me was the filming of the Muppet Movie by the Church Pond. At this time I was at the middle school where they asked for volunteers to play cricket on the green. In the hope that I might skip a few classes I promptly volunteered myself. Imagine my excitement when on the first day we found out that we were to be in the movie. Not to mention meeting all the Muppets in real life. My mother has newspaper clippings of Muppets experience should want to use this on your site.
Reason for Email: The main reason for sending this email is my quest to find an old school recipe, believe it or not. As I mentioned, we used to walk from the Church School to a Dinner Hall, where we ate with other schools from the village. Apart from the liver which I never liked the one recipe that I loved and will always remember was a serving of what I can only describe as a Cheese Puff. From memory they were round and about the size of tennis balls with an orange colour. The outside was a crispy cheese batter with a soft yellow, light cheese filling. I have scoured the internet in the hope of finding the recipe but can not find it anywhere. Can you help me with my quest and perhaps direct me to someone that does know of the recipe.
I would like to wish all at haddenham.net a merry Christmas and if I can be of any help to the cause I will gladly help.
Malcolm Powell trsmp@btconnect.com
7.12.04 from James Dillon MERRINGTON. CLARKE FAMILY CONNECTIONS. Hello, I'm looking for information about my ancestors, the Clarkes of Haddenham. Here's what I know: Israel Clarke was born in 1774 and died in 1861 in Haddenham. He was a stone mason/bricklayer. He had a brother named Anthony, and their father was William, married to Elizabeth. Israel's son, Joshua Clarke, was also born in Haddenham in 1829 and died in 1917. He was an agricultural worker and fruit and vegetable dealer. He had a wife named Betsy Beale and several children, including a son named Caleb, born 1851 or 1857, who married Annie Jones. Caleb's son was Herbert Gladstone Clarke, my grandfather, born in 1881, who emigrated to the U.S. in 1883. I'd like to know anything about this family, and whether or not the line continued in Haddenham after Joshua. You can reach me at lgad@mindspring.com. Thanks so much for any information you can provide! I hope to visit Haddenham next summer. Laura [Clarke] Dunham, Chapel Hill, North Carolina Laura Dunham

I visited this website because my ancestors used to live in Haddenham. My mother was born in the village in 1921 and lived there until she was 10 years old. My Grandfather went to school there and I have some old certificates that he was given while there. I also have some old Church magazines which my Great Grandmother kept. Plus some old photographs which may interest you. Looking at the photo of Green Dragon Cottage I think this may be the house they used to live in. I have visited the village on numerous occasions and am impressed by this website. I have found it very interesting. Jennifer Holland

What a great site, I wonder if anyone can help us. We live in Pinner and my daughter will be doing her work experience this summer at St Tiggywinkles. The problem is the journey. Our nearest station is Harrow on the Hill which I believe connects to Aylesbury with Chiltern Railways, would it be easier to then get a bus from Aylesbury or to get to Haddenham Parkway station, if so how far is it to walk from there to St Tiggywinkles? We really need a bit of local knowledge! (She has her heart set on working there and won't hear on trying for somewhere nearer home.) Laura Morrison

I am trying to trace distant relations!
My great-grandmother was the daughter of a Haddenham man - John Wilson - who moved to London around 1870 to work on the railways.
I have a photo of him, and we've searched the parish registers to put together a family tree, but we would love to trace old pictures or memories of his family, the rest of whom seem not to have strayed from Haddenham.
John's father was Abel Wilson - who is buried somewhere in the churchyard, though I haven't been able to find the grave. The double gravestone to the left of the church doorway belongs, though, to Abel's brother James and two of his wives!
If anyone reading this is a descendant, or knows one, please drop me a line - I'd love to find out more.

On a recent visit to Aylesbury Museum we were delighted to find a book called 'Haddenham in Camera' by Michael Whitney (Quotes Ltd 1990) which featured pictures of my mother-in-law's uncle and nephew who were carriers before WW2 and whose parents ran a shop in the village I believe. Despite trying the usual sources we have been unable to obtain this book which would make a lovely Xmas present for her (her name is Irene Rodrick, nee Mallins).
